“Partnering with Voortman enables us to pursue our passions and dreams of improving the sector. We eagerly anticipate collaborating with them on upcoming technologies and leveraging their offerings to deliver a superior customer experience,"
FOCUS ON INNOVATION AND EXCELLENT QUALITY
BZI Steel, based in Cedar City, Utah, has carved a niche in steel fabrication and construction innovation. From modest beginnings constructing simple barns, BZI has expanded to handle major projects in the food and beverage, microchip, and automotive industries.
BZI offers comprehensive services in steel fabrication, erection, and wall systems. Specializing in large warehouse steel erection, they have developed innovative processes that streamline construction with near assembly-line efficiency. This approach not only enhances productivity but also ensures high-quality results, setting BZI apart in the industry.
Tony Whiteford, General Manager at BZI, shares the company's inspiring journey. He emphasizes how leveraging cutting-edge technology and a robust partnership with Voortman has propelled BZI to new heights. BZI’s story is one of relentless innovation and dedication to excellence.
FROM HUMBLE BEGINNINGS TO MAJOR PROJECTS
BZI Steel’s journey began modestly, operating out of a single building equipped with versatile machines like the V808 (the predecessor of the Voortman V807) and a V310. Reflecting on those early days, General Manager Tony Whiteford explains, "Space was limited back then, and that’s why versatile machines were crucial."
Instead of investing in separate solutions for drilling, milling, cutting, sawing, punching, shearing, and marking, BZI utilized Voortman machines to efficiently and safely handle all kinds of processing on beams and plates within their confined space.
Today, BZI’s steel fabrication facility spans 90,000 square feet and is capable of producing approximately 2,500 tons of finished steel monthly. Strategic acquisitions of key Voortman machines, including the V310, V633, and additional saws, have significantly expanded their cutting capabilities and dramatically increased their drilling efficiency. This substantial growth has brought new opportunities for BZI. As Whiteford notes, "The company's significant growth has opened up new opportunities. It has allowed us to take on more technical projects, beyond just typical warehouse spaces. We're now involved in the food and beverage industry, microchip manufacturing, and the automotive industry. The sky's the limit for us."

PARTNERS IN PROGRESS
The synergy between BZI Steel and Voortman exemplifies how innovation and collaboration can lead to remarkable results. BZI was extremely impressed with the service accompanying their new machinery. “The Voortman team that assisted us with the expansion has been truly exceptional. They not only handled the technical drawings but also managed timelines and expectations effortlessly. Their professionalism even led to improvements in our existing equipment.
One significant improvement involves considering the use of the V631 for heavy line operations. ‘’We're considering using our V631 for heavy line operation, which, paired with our original V808, promises to significantly increase our output with heavy materials," Tony remarked.
Tony concludes his remarks about the partnership with Voortman by stating, “We aim to revolutionize the construction industry. Partnering with Voortman enables us to pursue our passions and dreams of improving the sector. We eagerly anticipate collaborating with them on upcoming technologies and leveraging their offerings to deliver a superior customer experience."

At BZI Steel, cultivating a positive work culture is a top priority. The company is dedicated to ensuring employees feel welcomed and see clear career paths ahead of them. Maintaining a clean and organized work environment is crucial, as it enhances both safety and efficiency. "We want to make sure that they have opportunities here, that they feel welcomed, that they are contributing and that they can see a career path that is not just a job," explains General Manager Tony Whiteford.
Whiteford emphasizes the importance of community within the company: "At the end of the day, we want them to feel part of a real family here, and that there is a bigger thing we are a part of." This sense of belonging is supported by BZI's commitment to professionalism and maintaining high standards. "A dirty shop is an unorganized shop, risking safety and quality. By keeping our shops clean and organized, we improve efficiency and take pride in our work both in fabrication and on the job site," Tony adds. Through these efforts, BZI Steel fosters a professional, supportive, and efficient work environment that benefits both employees and the company as a whole.
